Peruvian Carved Gourd
peruviangourd
Peruvian carved gourd
This item is a Peruvian carved gourd.  Made of dried and hallowed gourd from the langenaria plant. A centuries-old tradition, the gourds are hand-carved to depict animals, daily life scenes, or decorative art. After carving the gourd, the artist uses a wood burning device to create the color contrast of the gourd and produce a piece of art.

Traditionally, these gourds tell a story.  This gourd has a procession of musicians marching around it.  Can you think of a possible story this gourd might tell?
